Pack your picnic baskets, jump in your carriage, and travel about 30 miles from the US Capital to observe the battle that will decide the war!! Our Union troops are sure to beat those secesh at Manassas Junction.

Troop movement: Home station to bivouac site. Additional reconnaissance can be exercised on your own prior to your arrival at the bivouac site (suggestions of alternative missions to be included in the final movement order).

Bivouac site: A block of rooms has been reserved at the Holiday Inn Express and Suites about a mile from the Manassas Battlefield Visitor Center.1 The address is as follows:

Commissary: You’re on your own for dinner this night. The trains won’t arrive until Friday.

1 We have been given a group rate of $99.00 per night plus 14% tax ($112.86 per night, $338.58 for the three nights). Individuals need to make their reservations no later than 21 August 2023 guaranteed with a credit card to receive this rate. The rate is for a Standard Queen room (two queen beds). Please refer to the “Cleveland Civil War Roundtable” block when making reservations to receive the group rate. Free hot breakfast is included with your room rate. The rate is refundable up to 24 hours before your stay.

0900 – 0945 – National Park Service Film
0945 – 1000 – Restroom break
1000 – 1300 – Tour the battlefield for the First Battle of Manassas, 18-21 July 1861 (National Park Guide)
1300 – 1330 – Lunch (to be determined)
1330 – 1400 – Travel to Ben Lomond Historic Site
1400 – 1530 – Tour Ben Lomond Historic Site3 (Our guide is Kevin Pawlak of Prince William County)
1530 – 1545 – Travel to Liberia House
1545 – 1645 – Tour Liberia House (headquarters for General P.G.T. Beauregard)
1645 – 1700 – Travel to Mayfield Fort
1700 – 1730 – Mayfield Fort (Confederate fort that protected Manassas Junction from Union attack)
Commissary: A group dinner (time and location to be determined)

2 As in prior years we will caravan from site to site in personal vehicles.
3 Ben Lomond and its outbuildings were constructed for Benjamin Tasker Chinn in 1832. Confederate forces used Ben Lomond as a hospital following the 1861 Battle of First Manassas. Signatures of Federal soldiers who occupied the property in 1862 are still visible inside the house. The house is set up as a hospital as it would have been on the day of the battle.

0830 – 1030 – Battle of Kettle Run, 27 August 1862 (and also a brief discussion about the 1863 Battle of Bristoe Station, 14 October 1863) Our guide is Kevin Pawlak of Prince William County.
1030 – 1045 – Travel to Manassas Visitor Center
1045 – 1700 – Tour the battlefield for the Second Battle of Manassas, 28-30 August 1862 (National Park Guide)
Commissary: A group dinner (time and location to be determined)

War budget: Lodging and meals are at your own expense. Cost for guides and any other items are to be determined and will be covered in the final movement order (estimate: $100-$150 per person).
